Dogs are a very curious animal and there is a very good chance during  your dogs life that he will have the misfortune of being sprayed by a skunk. Skunk odor is pungent and skunk oil can cling to a pets fur even if the skunk spraying incident was not a direct hit. And unfortunately dogs seem to get sprayed by skunks on nights, weekends and holidays when The Pooch Mobile operators may not be able to immediately schedule an appointment.

When your dog does get sprayed by a skunk it may seem like a disaster, but if you move quickly you can help minimize some of the odor. When a skunk sprays your dog, an oil is released. If that oil is given enough time it will soak into your dog’s coat and skin, leaving that terrible skunk lingering aroma.

The Pooch Mobile uses a special skunk shampoo which is designed to remove that skunk odor – not temporarily cover the odor. However if your Pooch Mobile operator cannot schedule you an appointment immediately, we recommend you try this home remedy until The Pooch Mobile arrives.

You will need:    1 quart of Hydrogen Peroxide (3%),

1/4 cup of Baking Soda

2 tablespoons of Dish Soap

Measure out the ingredients. Mix the ingredients together until the baking soda is completely dissolved.  Apply a generous amount of the solution to the affected area using a sponge. Saturate the fur of the area that was sprayed by the skunk. Be careful when applying the solution near the eyes.

Massage the solution into the affected area for 10 minutes. Use warm water to rinse the solution from the dog. You may need to repeat for bad cases.

Your Pooch Mobile operator will then bathe the dog with a special doggy skunk shampoo to ensure all odor is gone and your dog will once again be ready to cuddle.
